House Raised From Ash
Reviving a treasured retreat with devotion to the full-circle views that keep the owners and their guests returning, swaths of glass, stone and wood quietly echo what persists. The upper level looks out above a grassed roof that blends into the horizon toward distant mountains, while the lower level gazes across the blue and green of the pool-tipped slope and hills beyond. The exacting simplicity of the unassuming design unites outdoor and indoor to set the house serenely in place, from the precisely paneled concrete envelope framing titan windows to the seamless glide of earthen finishes within. A flight of lights flocks steps from the piano where the family gathers, starry as the welcomed sky.
Saved, too, from a flash of wildfire during the build, the house stands in witness to beauty too chosen to surrender. From loss, renewal; from compartment, connection; from accident, intention. Change may be constant, but onward is forever.
